9 Ways To Show Mojo During Corona Virus Times

9 Ways To Show Mojo During Corona Virus Times

In an earlier post, I detailed the components of mojo. Lets apply these ideas to the current situation.
The most important component of mojo is motivation. If you are internally motivated to get back to work, bless you. If not, read this post about external motivation. By the way, the statistical site I prefer is our world in data.
To get some external motivation, I have recommended variety, friends, and rivals. Variety in this context means reading lots of different viewpoints about the virus and virus statistics. This approach will enhance you mojo. Friends means using others knowledge to help you deal with the virus (and hopefully get back to work.) Rivals is similar, using the actions of others as examples of how to react, hopefully in a positive way.
Next in importance for having mojo is expertise. Knowing about the Wuhan Virus si going to help you deal with it.

Name - Is it the corona virus, or COVID-19, or the Wuhan Virus? Don’t be doctrinaire about the name. If your audience wants political correctness, as the WHO seems to, call it the corona virus or COVID-19. However, you can sometimes call it the Wuhan Virus because that is accurate too.
Risk - There are people at high risk. It has been estimated to be 40% of the population in the USA. That is a lot of people. Special care must be taken by everyone to protect them. The shear numbers are one explanation why a lockdown was a better strategy than just letting the virus have its way.
Difference between cumulative and daily - Cumulative information is dominated by the past, whether it is cases, hospitalization, or deaths. It always increase.. Daily information is similar to the derivative of cumulative information. It is dominated by the present. Daily information gives a better snapshot of how an infection is doing right now.
Delay - Cases vs. hospitalizations vs. deaths - The way any viral infection works is first you are infected, then, if you decline, your get hospitalized. Finally, if medical efforts fail, you might die. This takes time and statistics don’t show this time very well. For example, it is important to understand that today’s deaths are from people who were infected weeks ago.
Geographic and demographic differences - Every municipality has its own level of infection. And every culture has its own pattern of behavior. Plans must take these into account. So if the pattern of behavior for a n area is natural social distancing, less mitigation is required. If the infection rate is low for another jurisdiction, less mitigation is required. One size does not fit all.

Dose - There is some disagreement about how many particles must be inhaled to make you infected. The number ranges from a lot for the young and healthy with great immune systems or specific immunity to the infection, to the old and infirm with perhaps many underlying illnesses. This is not a black and white issue, but one with many shades of grey. If your activities subject you to higher doses, your only protection short of changing your activities is to reduce the level that you inhale. You can do this by reducing your exposure time, or avoiding places where you might het higher doses.
Testing - It is important to understand the difference between testing for infection and testing for antibodies. Testing for infection takes a snapshot of your current condition and tells you if you are an actively infected person. Testing for antibodies tells you if you have been infected and developed some level of reaction, such as an immunity (partial, temporary, or full). You must understand what the testing reports are saying.
Masks - N-95 masks, which are worn in hospitals and other hostile places, protect the wearer from inhaling bad things. Simpler cloth, surgical, or homemade maks reduce the amount that the wearer exhales into the environment. Universal mask wearing tries to prevent others from getting infected by you, not protect you.
No new normal - I hate this phrase. Most of us want to get back to normal normal, not new normal.New normal implies that there are certain things that we should never do again. Is anyone with mojo thinking this way?
Once you have the expertise to fully understand these principles, you can work on experience to enhance mojo even further. Make sure, however, that you always stay safe. Look for examples of regions that have reopened and see if their situation is like yours. Have faith that this too shall pass. Be willing to try getting back safely.
