10 Must-See Wonders

Top Ten Sites You Must See

It took  a lot of mojo to build these.  They will inspire your own mojo.  Many sources make lists. I have used them to build my own list for you.  Wikipedia is a source that does a good job of describing how a list is built.  But I don't rely on it for the list itself.  Instead, I have used several other lists to build my own for you.  I used World Atlas, WonderslistYouQueen, and 100 Wonders of the World as my sources.  In compiling my list, I emphasized human achievement, intrepidity,  and steadfastness. The people who built these wonders did not take no for an answer.  Their visions were at times unpopular, even ridiculed.  But through shear ingenuity and hard work, they got an amazing feat done.   I considered being early and not having an example of something similar to look at as qualifiers.  These wonders must of course be man-made.  They must not be  simply an extension of one idea that stands on its own even if the whole is partially complete (e.g., no big cities). There is no question that these builders had mojo to spare.  Imagine the mojo that Neil Armstrong must have had and you will understand what I mean.

I have not considered location when making this list.  However, if you are a traveler, you will find 3 of these sites in the USA, 2 in Asia, 2 in South America, 2 in the Middle East, and 1 in Europe.

10 Sites You Must See

1. Great Wall of China - built over millennia.  Although it's visibility from space is a myth, it is still very impressive. It took many generations to finish it, but there was a vision  nonetheless.

2. Machu Picchu - Peru.  Built around 1450 at high elevation as an estate for the Inca emperor.

3. Taj Mahal - India.  Completed in 1653. It is an ivory-white marble Islamic mausoleum.

4. Christ the Redeemer - Brazil. Finished in 1931.  It isn't the largest statue of Jesus, but it is one of the most impressive.

5. Great Pyramid of Giza - Egypt. The largest of three, the Pyramid of Cheops, was completed in 2560 BC.

6. Empire State Building - New York City. Completed in 1931.  102 stories.  There have been many taller buildings, but none as historic as this Art Deco masterpiece.

7. Golden Gate Bridge - San Francisco.  Opened in 1937.  I've been there twice and was as impressed the second time as the first.  Very early for such a structure.  The wind is awesome and must have been troublesome.

8. Johnson Space Center - Houston. Opened to the public in 1963, it includes a Saturn rocket on its side and full scale models of the lunar lander and the space shuttle cockpit.  They are sure to impress and inspire your mojo.

9. Hagia Sophia - Istanbul, Turkey.  Built in AD 360, it was a cathedral, then a mosque, and is now a museum.
10. Colosseum - Rome, Italy.  Completed in AD 80.  Very old, and very famous.

This is my list.  You will be inspired by any of these sites.  Your mojo should increase, too.
