Coronavirus Mojo By State
Coronavirus Mojo By State
There are only seven US states that have never had a lockdown in response to the corona virus. There’s is the high mojo strategy, in my opinion. It would be easy to follow the conventional wisdom and lock your economy down whenever the case load gets too high. However, to buck the trend because you perceive a better strategy takes guts and mojo. The better strategy is to protect the high hazard people and deal with the risk for the low hazard people (see Sweden in recent days).
The seven states are Iowa, Arkansas, Wyoming, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Utah. Their Governors, all Republicans, are Kim Reynoldss, Asa HutchinsonI, Mark Gordon, Pete Ricketts, Doug Burgum, Kristi Noem, and Gary Herbert respectively. One size does not fit all. In other words, a national lockdown strategy wouldt not have been correct for these states These Governors realized that early and showed tremendous mojo not to lock their economies. Nevertheless, their states have achieved pretty good results. Here are some relevant statistics.
Wyoming - Wyoming has had 93.3 deaths per million residents, which ranks them 48th out of 50 states. Excellent. Their CFR is 0.69%, which is also 48th of 50. Also excellent. Currently, there is 1 death per day on average, They bounce around from zero to two. Note that travel to Wyoming is rare, so that partially explains their good numbers. However, they can’t be ignored. On average, 14 people die in Wyoming every day from all causes.1
Utah - Utah has had 164.4 deaths per million residents. which ranks 44th out of 50. Their CFR is 0.59% which is 50th out of 50!. Excellent/ Currently, there are 5 deaths per day on average, They have had as many as 6. On average, 48 people die in Utah every day from all causes.1
Nebraska - Nebraska has had 269.9 deaths per million residents, which ranks them 40th out of 50 states. Very good. Their CFR is 0.99%, which is 45th of 50. Very good. South Dakota - South Dakota has 325.5 deaths per million residents, which ranks them 35th out of 50 states. Good. Their CFR is 0.98%, which is 46th of 50. Excellent. Currently, there are 6 deaths per day on average, which is as high as they have ever gotten. Considering the well publicized meat packing plant issues they have had, they are doing very well. On average, 20 people die in South Dakota every day from all causes.1
