10 Highest Mojo Colleges

Image
10 Highest Mojo Colleges Many sources make lists. Wikipedia is a source that does a good job of describing how a list is built. But I don't rely on it. Instead, I used endowment , acceptance rate , the US News rank , and my own judgement as my sources in making my list. sually, lists rank colleges for suitability for an individual or for best overall rank. However, mine ranks the colleges with the highest mojo, not the best academics, sports, campuses, etc. I included US News’ overall rank because a high placement on such a list is one indication (not the only one) of mojo. Another one that I use is endowment. If alumni have money ad want to give it to their alma mater, that indicates that the alma mater has mojo. Another indicator that I use is acceptance rate. If a lot more people apply to a college than are accepted, that is a further indication of mojo. Also note that the military academies are in a different group for purposes of evaluation, but I include a co...

How Delaying Gratification Relates To Having Mojo

Image
How Delaying Gratification Relates To Having Mojo Many people believe that being able to delay gratification is a sign of high intelligence and/or good character. An article in Wikipedia details the conventional and demonstrated wisdom that delayed gratification is associated with various positive outcomes. As for mojo and delayed gratification, as a trained engineer I would say they are orthogonal. What this means is that you can have more or less of one without it necessarily affecting how much of the other you have. Nevertheless.in practice, people who have mojo tend to be good at delaying gratification. Here’s what I mean. In an earlier post , I have described the components necessary to have mojo. Being able to delay gratification isn’t one of them. But to be clear, either one will make you a more successful person. Delayed gratification is one of the big benefits ascribed to youth sports, for example. In fact, it is said that there are only two ways to learn to ...

9 Best Ways To Identify Mojo

9 Best Ways To Identify Mojo If you have the task of identifying a person who has or will have mojo, here are 9 question you should keep in mind about that person: Is the person comfortable in his skin? - This is harder to describe than it is to recognize. When a person is comfortable in his own skin, he won’t feel a need to hide anything. There will not be a covering of the face. There will rarely be a posture that could be remotely described as closed, like arms folded. Speaking will be natural, flowing, and confident. Mistakes will be easily recognized, acknowledged, and corrected. Does the person treat others well, even if they are little people? - Taxi drivers, waitpeope, bellhops, etc. Anyone who can’t make a big difference in the person’s life. They will always be treated with respect. Is the person confident? - When given a problem to solve, a confident person will attack it and come up with an answer. It may or may not be 100% corre...

How To Increase Faith To Improve Your Mojo

Image
How To Increase Your Faith To Improve Your Mojo F irst of all, it is important to understand what I mean by faith. This blog is about mojo and I will describe how having faith increases it. For example, if you have faith in your training, e.g., that you have been properly prepared for the current situation, you can perform better. But what is faith?  There is a difference between faith and belief. Belief suggests that in this example you know that a given training regimen works and could handle your present situation. However, faith means that not only do you have the belief that the training is appropriate, but you act on it. Faith requires the additional step of investing yourself in the belief. Now consider trust. The two words, faith and trust are closer together. Trust implies blindness to anything that might impede performance. For example,, that you trust a person to do well even if he isn’t prepared. Other than that, they are the same. So if everyone i...
